Croft Park
When two North East names come together — Blyth Spartans and Fergusons — you know it’s going to be something special. To mark Fergusons’ sponsorship at Croft Park, the home of Blyth Spartans, our team at Signs Express (Newcastle North) was asked to design, produce and install a massive 45-metre promotional sign. It was an exciting challenge — one that tested every part of our design, manufacturing, and installation expertise.

The Brief
Fergusons wanted a high-impact sign that would run the full length of the West Stand at Croft Park, promoting their removals and storage division. The brief was simple in spirit but ambitious in scale:
- Create something bold and highly visible from every part of the ground.
- Incorporate the iconic ‘Fergy’ character into the design.
- Ensure the finished product was durable enough to handle the North East weather.
The sign needed to make a real statement — not just for fans in the stands, but for everyone who visits the ground or passes by.
Our input to Design and Materials
With a sign of this size, precision and planning are everything. Our designers worked closely with Fergusons and the Croft Park ground team to make sure the layout, colours and materials worked perfectly in the space.
The final design was fabricated using aluminium composite panels, chosen for their lightweight strength and weather resistance. Each panel was finished with digitally printed vinyl graphics, giving the sign crisp detail and vibrant colour even at distance.
The centrepiece — the instantly recognisable ‘Fergy’ mascot — received a special touch. We stencil cut the design and applied a clear vinyl digital print over a reflective backing, which makes the character stand out brilliantly under both natural light and floodlights.
It’s a clever technique that adds depth and visual punch — exactly what you want from a sign on this scale.
Challenges and solutions
Installing a 45-metre sign isn’t something you can do off the cuff. Every detail, from panel spacing to access logistics, was mapped out in advance.
Our team coordinated directly with the Croft Park ground staff to plan around training sessions and match fixtures, ensuring no disruption to club activity.
On installation day, the process ran like clockwork. Each panel was measured, levelled, and secured with precision to achieve a seamless finish across the entire stand.
The result: a bold, clean line of branding that stretches across the full length of the West Stand, perfectly aligned and built to last.
The outcome
Now proudly displayed above the West Stand, the new signage adds a burst of colour and professionalism to Croft Park. It’s impossible to miss — a great piece of promotion for Fergusons and a fantastic backdrop for Blyth Spartans’ home matches.
Fans have already noticed the difference. The reflective elements of the design catch the light beautifully, making the ‘Fergy’ character stand out even more under the floodlights.
For Fergusons, it’s a perfect way to showcase their brand while supporting a local football club. For us, it’s another project that shows what good design and solid planning can achieve — even on a scale like this.
