Students Union UCLan in Preston
This was a fun job for us at Signs Express (Central Lancashire). The Students’ Union at UCLan in Preston wanted something bright and eye-catching to bring a bit of energy into their space, but they also needed it to be practical. The idea was to create a wall that looked great and could be updated easily for events and campaigns throughout the year.

Our approach
We decided to use Phototex, which has the look of wallpaper but behaves more like a reusable film. You can print anything onto it, peel it off, and put it back up again — without marking the walls. For this project, we printed about 40 square metres of full-colour graphics and added sections of blackboard vinyl over the top. That meant students and lecturers could write straight onto the wall — a handy way to post details about upcoming events or society meetings.
Outcome
The job went up quickly and was finished in time for an open day. It completely changed the feel of the room. You could see how much the students loved it as soon as they started writing on the panels. It’s always satisfying to see how the right material can turn a plain wall into something useful and creative. Phototex is one of those products that surprises people — it looks simple, but it does so much.
