Client Overview
RWE (formerly Centrica) and Perkins Engines are both well-established names in the energy and engineering sectors. While their industries differ, their requirements were remarkably similar: high-quality, durable identification signage, tailored with absolute precision.
The objectives
This project was the perfect opportunity to showcase what our new laser engraving machine could really do.
Our goal was twofold: first, to deliver high-spec engraved signage that met strict operational requirements; and second, to demonstrate just how versatile laser engraving can be, even in applications you might not traditionally associate with a sign company.
Challenges
We needed to engrave small, multi-coloured tags with varying text and layout.
The signage had to be tough enough for harsh environments and still look good.
One order included nearly 2,000 desk tags. Consistency and scale were critical.
And just to test our creative limits, we wanted to experiment with some unlikely materials.
The Solution
Thanks to our advanced laser engraving machine and a bit of imagination, we delivered results that were both technically precise and visually impressive.
1. Multi-Coloured ID Tags for RWE
We produced a batch of durable, engraved tags using ROWMARK laser acrylic, chosen for its clean finish and layered colour capability. Each tag had its own identity, colours that popped, fonts that were easy to read, and layouts that made sense at a glance.
2. Desk Identifier Tags for Perkins Engines
This project was all about volume and finish. Using brushed aluminium-effect ROWMARK material, we engraved almost 2,000 desk tags. They had to be consistent, legible, and ready for immediate use. The final result looked great - clean, consistent, and practical enough to handle the daily wear of a busy industrial site.
3. Creative Capability Testing - Stone and 3D Acrylic
Sometimes, you need to push things a little.
We decided to engrave a rock. Literally. The stone took the engraving beautifully - a testament to the machine’s range and our team's willingness to get creative. It might not be an everyday request, but it proved just how versatile the process can be.
And finally, we created some 3D acrylic lettering for an HERBS sign. It's a great visual example of what laser engraving can add to internal décor or retail branding - sharp edges, layered depth, and a clean, tactile finish.
Execution
We took a hands-on approach to every part of the project:
· Material Selection: We worked closely with the clients to select ROWMARK materials that balanced durability with a premium finish.
· Prototyping & Testing: Especially for RWE, we ran several iterations to refine legibility and adhesive performance.
· Batch Production: For Perkins, we built a production flow that allowed us to scale up without sacrificing quality.
Creative Play: The rock and 3D acrylic projects were developed in-house. Just to see what was possible and to inspire future collaborations.
The Results
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This project demonstrated the precision, speed and versatility of our new laser engraving machine across multiple materials and applications.
Both RWE and Perkins Engines received their signage exactly to spec - high-quality, on time, and ready to use.
We also proved our ability to handle large-scale engraving efficiently, while experimental samples sparked new interest from sectors like interiors and retail. A technical upgrade that’s already opening creative doors.
