Client Overview
Hitek Electronic Materials, based in Scunthorpe, specialises in advanced materials and electronic solutions. As their brand evolved, it became clear their building needed to reflect that same level of quality and professionalism.
They had recently installed a new reception building and updated their branding. What they needed next was consistency, something that tied the whole site together and made the right first impression from the moment visitors arrived.
That’s where Signs Express N & NE Lincs came in. Being local meant we could spend time properly understanding the site, not just from drawings, but in person - which, as it turned out, made all the difference.

Objectives
At first glance, the brief was clear:
Refresh existing building signage to reflect the new branding
Introduce signage to the new reception area
Find a way to neatly conceal visible building cabling
But as with most projects, it wasn’t just about replacing signs.
Hitek were looking for a site that felt consistent from every angle, something that reflected the quality of their work and gave visitors confidence from the moment they arrived.
Challenges
One of the first things we noticed during the site visit was the cabling. It was more prominent than expected, and simply replacing the signage wouldn’t solve the problem.
We worked closely with Emily Dobinson, Hitek’s Marketing Officer, to find the right balance between design and practicality.
The key challenges were:
Ensuring tray signs were deep enough to conceal cabling
Keeping them narrow enough to sit neatly behind existing downpipes
Maintaining consistency across multiple signage areas without it feeling pieced together
It sounds like a small detail, but getting those measurements right was critical. A few millimetres either way would have been noticeable.
Solutions Provided
Rather than approaching this as a set of individual signs, we treated it as a full site refresh.
The solution included:
Refurbishment of the main tray sign, using 5 - 7-year laminated vinyl wraps to bring it in line with the new branding
New aluminium composite tray signs, CNC router cut for a clean, precise finish
Post and fence signage to improve visibility across the site
Reception fascia panels to create a clear and welcoming entrance point
All elements were produced using full colour, high-quality self-adhesive graphics, carefully matched to ensure consistency throughout.
Just as importantly, every sign had a job to do, whether that was improving visibility, guiding visitors, or simply making the building feel more put-together.
Execution
From the outset, this was a collaborative process.
We developed initial artwork and visual layouts so Hitek could see how everything would look before anything went into production. That early visibility helped avoid surprises later on and meant we could fine-tune the details together.
Once approved, we moved into manufacture and installation:
CNC-cut tray signs produced to exact measurements
Installation planned to minimise disruption to daily operations
Careful on-site fitting, particularly around downpipes and cabling
Project Highlights
Seamless integration of new branding across both existing and new signage
Practical problem-solving, using tray signage to discreetly conceal building cabling
Precision-led design, ensuring signage fits perfectly around existing structures like downpipes
Consistent visual identity across multiple areas of the site
Enhanced reception frontage, creating a stronger, more professional first impression
Results
The finished result is a site that feels cohesive and confident.
Visitors are now met with a clean, professional exterior that reflects the quality of Hitek’s work inside. The new reception signage gives the entrance a clear focal point, while the updated signage across the building brings everything together visually.
And importantly - the cabling? Hidden. You wouldn’t know it was ever an issue.
It’s one of those projects where nothing shouts for attention, but everything feels right. And that’s usually a good sign.
