Sheffield Children's Hospital

Signs Express (Sheffield) are delighted to have won the Best Interior Sign category at the British Sign and Graphics national awards ceremony on October 13th for their stunning work in the Eye Department at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Carol and Steve Morris, owners of Signs Express (Sheffield) were over the moon with the awards announcement. Carol commented that “Steve and I are immensely proud of our team who spent many hours ensuring that all aspects of the work at the Eye Department were perfect and the result looks amazing. The great feedback we have been receiving from staff and patients alike really reflect the hard work and skill of our team.”

This prestigious accolade recognises the team’s contribution to the project which completely transforms the Eye Department and makes it much more child-friendly using colourful wall graphics designed by artist, Nick Deakin.

The project was commissioned by Artfelt, The Children’s Hospital Charity’s arts programme. The graphics that brought Signs Express (Sheffield) to the attention of the judges depict a series of characters that play on the walls, ceilings and doors throughout Eye Department. These are specially designed to occupy the patients whilst waiting for appointments and are even used during examinations as part of the tests.

This project is just one in a long line of installations completed by the Signs Express team at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital, all of which have been so well received by the public and so successful with the hospital staff that the business is continuing to be involved in projects through other departments.

Over the course of these projects Carol and Steve Morris have formed a close relationship with Artfelt, who are dedicated to transforming the hospital’s walls and spaces with bright art, helping children to recover in an environment tailored to them and it is a cause that the team at Signs Express (Sheffield) are pleased to be a part of. “We always enjoy working alongside Artfelt at Sheffield Children’s Hospital,” Steve Morris stated. “We get the opportunity to be involved with local artists and we always know that the work we do will make a difference to the lives of those children and families that have to visit the wards. This award just goes to show how invested we have been in improving the overall atmosphere at the hospital.”
