About the venue
Set within the Chiltern Hills near Aylesbury, Notley Tythe Barn is a beautiful rural venue with a long and interesting history. Once a working farm, the site has been carefully restored by owners Nick and Denise Reynolds, who transformed the original 12th-century barn into a distinctive wedding venue while preserving its character and sense of place.
Today, the venue welcomes couples and guests from across the region, offering a setting that feels both timeless and considered, surrounded by open countryside and expansive grounds.

Project Brief
As the business continued to grow, Nick and Denise were keen to ensure that visitors’ first impressions matched the quality of the experience awaiting them. Clear, well-considered external signage was needed to help guide guests to the venue and present it confidently from the outset.
Signs Express (Aylesbury) was commissioned to modernise the external signage for the barn and for neighbouring industrial units, creating a more welcoming and professional arrival experience for visitors and prospective clients.
Site Challenges
This was not a straightforward signage installation. Due to the size of the sign, the location of the site and access limitations, careful planning was required. Phillip and the team at Signs Express (Aylesbury) arranged specialist equipment to transport and install the signage at the venue safely.
This ensured the sign could be installed efficiently and securely, while minimising disruption and respecting the setting of the site.
Signage Solution
The centrepiece of the project was a shaped panel and post system positioned close to the main road, marking the entrance to the long drive leading through the 500-acre estate to the barn itself. This sign plays a key role in guiding visitors and setting expectations before they arrive.
Nick and Denise initially had a traditional wooden sign in mind to reflect the rural surroundings. Following discussions with the Signs Express (Aylesbury) team, a digitally printed wood-effect sign was recommended. This option provided the same natural appearance while offering improved durability and a more cost-effective solution over time.
To enhance visibility, illumination was incorporated into the design, ensuring the sign remained effective throughout the day and into the evening.
Final Outcome
The completed signage feels appropriate to both the venue and its surroundings, subtly reinforcing the sense of quality and sophistication associated with Notley Tythe Barn. From the moment guests turn off the main road, the sign helps set the tone for the experience ahead.
