Local authorities across the UK often approach Signs Express when they need their refuse and recycling fleets branded. These vehicles are on the road every day, visiting every street, so they’re an ideal way to share public messages about recycling and environmental care.
Client needs
Councils wanted clear, eye-catching graphics that would raise awareness of recycling schemes while keeping the vehicles smart and consistent with council branding. Many of these campaigns are tied to seasonal pushes or new recycling targets, so the turnaround times can be tight.
Our solution
Our centres designed and fitted vinyl livery graphics and rigid banner systems to refuse and recycling trucks. The designs carried bright environmental messages and key recycling instructions, so residents see them daily. We kept artwork simple, bold, and easy to read from a distance.
Each Signs Express centre handled everything locally — artwork setup, material production, and installation — working closely with council fleet managers to schedule fitting around collection hours. That meant some installs took place in depots overnight or between rounds to avoid vehicle downtime.
Weather and timing were the main hurdles. Vehicles can’t be off the road for long, and outdoor fitting in winter isn’t always kind. We planned carefully and used quick-apply materials that bond well even in cooler conditions.
The Outcome
Once fitted, the graphics transformed standard refuse lorries into mobile adverts for recycling. The designs are bold but tidy, delivering the message without cluttering the vehicles. Councils reported stronger recognition of their recycling campaigns soon after the rollout.
